Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are rules regarding badges?
A. Name badges must be worn at all times and must be visible. Your name badge serves as your entrance into all events. If your name badge is not visible, conference staff or room monitors may ask to see it before allowing you into conference events.
Q. Will an attendee list be available at the beginning of the conference?
A. Yes, an attendee list will be provided as part of your conference material. Anyone who registered prior to September 15th will be included on the attendee list, except for those who opted out on the registration form.
Q. What is the seating policy for the plenary, breakout sessions, and workshops?
A. The plenary sessions will take place in the ballroom and can accommodate all registrants. Attendees are asked to take a seat rather than standing in the back of the room. For the breakout sessions and workshops, it is first come, first served. Once the session room is full with seated attendees, the session will be closed to additional participants. Standing in the back of the room is not permitted.
Q. Why did I have to indicate which breakout sessions I plan to attend when I registered on-line?
A. We ask for this information to determine the expected level of attendance at each session to ensure adequate seating in breakout rooms. It does not guarantee you a seat or require you to adhere to the schedule of sessions in which you identified interest. Seating in breakout sessions is first come, first served.
Q. What meals will be provided at the events?
A. Breakfast and lunch will be provided everyday, September 30 - October 2. The Gala Reception on Wednesday from 5:30pm-9:30pm includes a buffet of entrees, hor d’oeuvres, and desserts.
Q. What are the Breakfast Roundtable discussions?
A. BIS licensing and enforcement staff and officials from other agencies will be available for you to meet to discuss designated topics on October 2nd. There will be four one-hour sessions from 9:00am – 10:00am, 10:30am – 11:30am, 1:00pm-2:00pm, and 2:30pm-3:30pm. You may take part in all sessions, but to provide ample opportunity to network, you will be required to select a different table for each session. Program material in this book identifies the topics of discussion and the facilitator at each table. The tables will be numbered. This event is first come, first served.
Q. Why are industry exhibitors only available on October 2nd?
A. In order to accommodate more attendees at the conference, BIS had to limit the exhibit hall time due to space limitations.
Q. Where should individual session evaluations be submitted?
A. Evaluations will be distributed at the beginning of each breakout and workshop session to evaluate the individual session. These forms should be turned prior to leaving the session room.
Q. Where do I turn in the final evaluation form?
A. At the end of the conference, please return your final evaluation form to the registration desk on the Independence Level to receive a special gift.
Q. Are CLE credits available?
A. BIS programs, including Update, are certified by the State Bar of California for CLE credit. Many state bar associations will accept credits from programs certified by other state bars. Thus, if you are an attorney in another state, you may be able to accrue CLE credits by submitting the attendance form to your own state bar. Please ask at the registration/information desk for the necessary forms.
Q. Will program material be made available to attendees after the conference?
A. Following the conference, materials will be made available online.
Q. Will my cell phone work in the conference area?
A. This depends on your service provider. Cell phones with Verizon Wireless should work in all areas of the hotel. Pay phones are also available on both conference levels.
Q. What is the conference policy on use of cell phones, beepers and pagers?
A. These devices should be either turned off or set to vibrate. Please step outside the conference rooms into the hallway when using your cell phone.
Q. Does the hotel offer internet access?
A. The Internet Café will be open in the bridge rooms on the Constitution Level to provide internet access and a place to schedule one-on-one meetings or consult with colleagues. High-speed wireless internet access is available for a daily fee and is accessible from a number of locations around the hotel, including guest rooms and many public areas, but not in the conference rooms.
Q. Where can I print out conference material from the distributed USB flash drives?
A. If you wish to print out slide presentations or other information from the provided USB flash drives, printers will be available in the Internet Café located in the Bridge Rooms of the Constitution Level.
